Kári Stefánsson
Chairman

Kári Stefánsson, M.D., Dr. Med. has served as our President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director since he co-founded deCODE in August 1996. Dr. Stefánsson was appointed to serve as the Chairman of our Board of Directors in December 1999. From 1993 until April 1997, Dr. Stefánsson was a professor of Neurology, Neuropathology and Neuroscience at Harvard University. In addition, from 1993 through December 1996 he was Director of Neuropathology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. From 1983 to 1993, he held faculty positions in Neurology, Neuropathology and Neurosciences at the University of Chicago. Dr. Stefánsson received his M.D. and Dr. Med. from the University of Iceland and is board-certified in neurology and neuropathology in the United States.

Dr. Stefansson is a Class III director and his term expires in 2010.   
  

Terrance G. McGuire
Lead Independent Director

Terrance G. McGuire is the Lead Director of the Board of Directors. He has served as a Director since the Company was founded in August 1996. Mr. McGuire is a member of the Company’s Audit and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees.

Mr. McGuire is the co-founder and managing general partner of Polaris Venture Partners based in Boston. He focuses on life sciences investments.

He is a director of Acceleron Pharma, AdiMAB, Life Line Screening, Microbia, MicroCHIPS, Inc. Pulmatrix, Inc. Remon Medical Technologies Inc. Tempo Pharmaceuticals and WMR Biomedical, Inc. Terry currently serves on the boards of the Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, the National Venture Capital Association, the MIT Center for Cancer Research and the Advisory Boards of Harvard Business School´s Healthcare Initiative and The Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship.

Mr. McGuire received his B.S. in Physics and Economics from Hobart College, his M.S. in Engineering from Dartmouth College and his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.

Mr. McGuire is a Class III director and his term expires in 2010

J. Neal Armstrong
Director

J. Neal Armstrong has served as a director since October 2003. Mr. Armstrong serves as a Chairman of the Company’s Audit Committee and is a member of the Compensation Committee.

Mr. Armstrong served as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Secretary and Treasurer of Aspect Medical Systems, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of an anesthesia monitoring system from 1996 until his retirement in 2006. From 1990 to 1996, Mr. Armstrong served as Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and as a director of Haemonetics, Inc., a manufacturer of blood processing systems. From 1985 to 1990, he was the Vice President of Finance and Administration, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer at BTU International, a manufacturer of thermal processing systems. Prior to 1985, he served for 14 years in senior operating and financial positions at Texas Instruments, Inc., an electronics company.

Mr. Armstrong is a Class II director and his term expires in 2009.

James Beery
Director

James Beery joined the board of deCODE genetics in May 2004. Mr. Beery serves as a Chairman of the Company’s Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee.

Mr. Beery is Senior Of Counsel in the London office of Covington & Burling, an international law firm. Prior to his retirement in 2001, Mr. Beery served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of GlaxoSmithKline PLC, a UK-based global pharmaceutical company. From 1993 until the formation of the merged company GlaxoSmithKline, Mr. Beery served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of SmithKline Beecham PLC. Mr. Beery holds a BA from Harvard College and a JD from Stanford Law School. He is currently a director of Martek Biosciences, Inc., Orchid Cellmark, Inc., Inion OY and the London Centre for the International Education of Students, and is a member of the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School and the Advisory Board of the Stanford Law School Program in Law, Science and Technology.

Mr. Beery is a Class II director and his term expires in 2009.

Linda Buck
Director

Linda Buck joined the board of deCODE genetics in December 2005.

Dr. Buck, who received a Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 2004 for her discoveries on the workings of the olfactory system, is Associate Director of the Basic Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator. She also is an affiliate professor of physiology and biophysics at the University of Washington. Dr. Buck is the author of numerous scientific publication and the recipient of many honors and awards for her research. Prior to her current positions, Dr. Buck was a professor of neurobiology at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Buck holds BS degrees in psychology and microbiology from the University of Washington, and she received her PhD in immunology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Dr. Buck is the director of International Flavors & Fragrances, Inc.

She is a Class I director and her term expires in 2008.

BirgitStattin Norinder
Director

Birgit Stattin Norinder joined the board of deCODE genetics in June 2006 and is a member of the Company’s Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

Ms. Stattin Norinder has extensive experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry and has held senior clinical development and regulatory affairs positions in Europe and the United States at Pfizer, Astra, Glaxo and Pharmacia & Upjohn. She was CEO and Chairman of UK-based Prolifix Ltd, from 1998 until the merger of Prolifix and TopoTarget in 2002.

She currently serves on the boards of several biotechnology companies including Antisoma plc, Biolipox AB, Karo Bio AB, Photocure ASA and is chairman of the board of Index Pharmaceuticals AB and Lauras AS.

Ms. Stattin Norinder is a Class I director and her term expires in 2008.

Earl M. Collier, Jr
Director

Mr. Earl M. "Duke" Collier, Jr joined the board of deCODE genetics in July 2006. Mr. Collier serves as the Chairman of the Company’s Compensation Committee.

Mr. Collier is an Executive Vice President at Genzyme Corp. He has previously served as President of Vitas Healthcare, was a partner at the Washington, DC-based law firm of Hogan and Hartson, and served as Deputy Administrator of the Health Care Finance Administration (now CMS) in the Department of Health and Human Services. Mr. Collier received his BA from Yale University and his JD from the University of Virginia. He serves on the Board of Directors of Pervasis Therapeutics, a private company in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Newton Wellesley Hospital.

Mr. Collier is a Class II director and his term expires in 2009.

Peter Goodfellow
Director

Peter Goodfellow Director Peter Goodfellow joined the board of deCODE genetics in September 2006 and is a member of the Company’s Compensation Committee.

Dr Goodfellow has held senior management positions at GlaxoSmithKline and SmithKline Beecham. Previously, he held the Balfour chair in genetics at Cambridge University and research positions at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Dr. Goodfellow received his doctorate from Oxford University and held a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and has been awarded several scientific prizes for pioneering research in human genetics.

Dr. Goodfellow is a Class III director and his term expires in 2010.
